Whether you’ve worked with reclaimed wood before or you’re brand new to the concept, we’re sure you still have some questions. Let us answer some of your questions about Reclaimed Timber Products and the wood that we have.
1. What is reclaimed timber and where does it come from?
Reclaimed wood is material that is salvaged from old buildings, barns, and other wooden structures that usually pre-date 1930. Often this wood is old growth lumber that was originally harvested from mature trees with a tighter grain which produced stronger wood. Salvaged wood can be used in a variation of products from rustic (nail & bolt holes, large knots and checking, distressed patina, circle sawn, rough cut, worm wood, etc) to nearly perfect clear vertical grain (CVG) wood that is next to impossible to find. Reclaimed wood is the perfect choice for those who love the idea of re-use, who are environmentally responsible, or those who have a love of history and nature.
2. What are the primary sources for the wood Reclaimed Timber Products reclaims?
The majority of our reclaimed wood comes from old barns, bridges and industrial buildings. We have many established relationships with global sources for reclaimed timber and are positioned in the marketplace to provide a stable flow of unique and sustainable products.
3. Why is reclaimed timber so popular and what is it used for?
The warm look and feel of quality reclaimed timber adds a beautiful architectural wood element to any home, commercial building or renovation project. Repurposed wood has many uses in construction and design. For a rustic style interior, reclaimed hand-hewn timber-framing, wide plank flooring, rich and warm wall paneling, or distressed wood doors can make the mood. For a more modern design, wide plank pristine CVG flooring or exposed beams to match your state-of-the-art kitchen can add that element of warmth and history without a rustic country feel. No matter what you’re designing, reclaimed wood simply helps tell the story.
4. What if you don’t have exactly what I’m looking for?
Through our network of suppliers in the timber industry around the country, we can often find the specific timber you need for your project. If your request happens to be beyond what we do, then we’ll refer you to someone who will be able to help you better.
5. How do you ensure that the wood you reclaim is quality enough to repurpose?
Any wood that is rotted or insect-infested is quickly tossed out to guarantee that we only sell wood you can use. However, there is a range in quality of wood that we reclaim in order to provide a variety of options for our customers. Whether you’re looking for rough and rustic or clear and clean wood, our customers have come to rely on the consistent, high quality standards established in our grading system.
